Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015

Description:

Arctic Response provides one of the few classroom based WHMIS 2015 programs available.  This training method greatly improves student comprehension, especially for workers who learn better with people than through computers.  Classroom based training provides candidates the opportunity to discuss related product specific issues or work processes for their workplaces.

Recently, Canada aligned WHMIS regulations with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).  The WHMIS 2015 legislation is currently in force, meaning that suppliers may begin to use the new requirements for labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) for hazardous products sold, distributed, or imported into Canada. However, there is a transition period with various stages.

Currently, supplies must fully comply with either the repealed Controlled Products Regulations (WHMIS 1988) or the HPR (WHMIS 2015) for a specific controlled or hazardous product. The classification, label and (material) SDS must comply fully with the specific regulation chosen by the supplier, and not be a combination of the two.  Use the following links for additional information: Hazardous products act , Hazardous Products Regulations.  More information regarding transition time from WHMIS 1988 to 2015 can be found at: WHMIS Transition Arctic Response can provide training on WHMIS 1988 legislation and procedures upon request.

Important Note: Training courses provided by safety companies like Arctic Response can only provide education on the WHMIS system.  Employers have a legal requirement to develop internal WHMIS related policies and orientations for the workplace and employees.  Arctic Response does provide consulting services to develop, improve and implement WHMIS and other workplace safety policies and procedures.
