Description:

WAWC is looking for a Cultural Support Youth Apprentice, between the ages of 17-30. This position is a priority hire for Indigenous women.

The Cultural Support Youth Apprentice will:

  • Work closely with the Cultural Supports Program Coordinator to help coordinate and facilitate programs, workshops, and community gatherings which allow individuals and groups to have access to culture, land, and community.
  • Have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of cultural teachings and ceremony and will be encouraged to share their experience and teachings as appropriate.
  • Be mentored by the Executive Director and will spend some time attending meetings with the ED and learn new skills around creating partnerships at the community and funder level.
  • Learn the functioning of a non-profit and will learn skills around day-to-day operation, evaluations, data collections and reporting as well as creating and managing social media posts and print media posters.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills/training:

  • Standard First Aid
  • Class 5 Driver’s License (access to a personal vehicle may be required)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, Canva, and social media platforms, specifically Facebook
  • Understanding of cultural practices, teaching, and history of Yukon First Nations, or a desire to learn
  • Flexible, accountable, reliable, positive attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team
