Community Liaison Officer – Part-Time Position
Job Description
ERA Architects Inc. (ERA) specializes in architecture, landscape design, heritage conservation and planning as they relate to historical places. ERA has been engaged by the Government of Yukon’s Historic Sites Unit, in collaboration with the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation (TH) to prepare a Conservation Plan for the Ch’ëdä Dëk / Forty Mile Historic Site, which was damaged in 2023 by an ice-jam flood.
ERA is seeking an enthusiastic TH Citizen to serve as the Community Liaison Officer for this project through Summer 2024. This is a paid temporary position offered in partnership with the Department of Tourism and Culture (Historic Sites Unit) of the Government of Yukon.
Reporting to the Project Manager of the Ch’ëdä Dëk / Forty Mile Historic Site Conservation Plan project, the successful candidate will be responsible for acting at the Community Liaison Officer for the community engagement phase of this project (June – August 29, 2024).
This position will run from for approximately three months beginning in June 2024, on a part-time basis at approximately 25 hours / month, subject to the successful candidate’s availability and project needs.
Tasks Include:
- Provide on the ground assistance to the project team while in Dawson for the site visit.
- Assist in preparation of, and attend the site visit and in-town engagement sessions with TH Citizens including:
- preparation and distribution of material;
- on the ground coordination;
- engagement facilitation;
- team de-brief and follow-up.
- Undertake engagement activities with TH Citizens who are not able to attend the site visit or workshop.
- Staff an information table at the Farmer’s Market.
- Collect and collate feedback from community.
- Contribute to our understanding of the feedback we receive through engagement.
- Assist in the preparation of summary materials.
Essential Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (or equivalent). An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, experience, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in heritage, traditions, and history.
- Familiarity with Dawson City and Ch'ëdä Dëk/Forty Mile Historic Site.
- Strong communication skills and general abilities in using a computer.
- Experience in organizing and prioritizing work commitments and meeting deadlines.
Assets:
- Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to make recommendations, communicate ideas effectively and provide advice to team members.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be a Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Citizen aged 18 or older.
Pay:
- This position involves 75 total hours of work, at $40 / hour.
