Interpreting Legislation

Description:

Course Description

Interpreting Legislation is a 14-hour intermediate-level course. It is intended for those who received the overview of the modern method of interpreting legislation from Principles of Administrative Justice. Administrative tribunals result from the legislation. As a result, all administrative justice professionals – decision-makers, administrators, advocates, and investigators – must interpret legislation. These include acts, regulations, and bylaws, as well as policies and contracts. This course develops experience in the modern method. It also uses an organized statutory interpretation process. Participants practice the method and process in exercises requiring them to work on their own and in groups. The course takes them through typical interpretation problems. It presents most challenges in interpreting legislation. It gives learners a sound foundation in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to tackle interpretation questions.
