Understanding Legislation

Understanding Legislation is intended for non-lawyers who are new to working with legislation and regulations, or who want to expand their understanding of these tools. No previous course work in law is required to take this course.

Course modules provide an overview of:

  • Sources of Law and Statutes

  • Legal Research for Legislation and Regulations

  • Legislation Development, Elements and Review

  • Roles and Rules

  • Terms, Meanings, Conventions and Applications

  • Specific Rules

  • Class Practice, Review and Discussion

This 6-hour course is livestreamed via Zoom in 2 sessions at 3 hours per session, with instructor Bruce Willis; and a guest speaker on legislation development in the Yukon Government.
