Salary: Level 2-5.3 ($27.36 - $40.02 hourly)

Reporting to the Summer Day Camp Supervisor, this position is responsible for the supervision of children ages six to twelve years old.  The position is responsible for carrying out the Summer Day Camp program goals by assisting in developing and implementing a weekly curriculum with daily activities to meet the individual needs of each child.  Building on personal competencies- self-confidence, empathy, self-awareness, emotional regulation, social responsibilities and relationship skills, conflict resolution, problem solving, health and physical activity, nutrition, leadership skills, literacy, and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in culture and Hän language. This position works in close partnership with other Summer Day Camp Leader team members and Youth Day Camp Leader. This position is responsible for ensuring YG regulations followed at all times. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
• Minimum YG Level 1 Early Childhood Educator designation or currently in the process of completing two 45-hour ECE courses to obtain Level 1    certification. (NOTE: wage level is commensurate with certification level). 
• Experience working with school-age children ages 6-12 in a summer camp, Early Childhood, outdoor education program, afterschool program      or related setting. 
• Experience being physically active outdoors and involved in recreational and/or cultural activities. 
• Ability to manage stress effectively ad be flexible to unexpected daily program changes (i.e. weather, attendance, short staffed, etc.) 
• Ability to take initiative; to supervise children independently and effectively as part of a team. 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and foster trust with families, Elders, youth, and children and coworkers. 

Assets:
• Post-secondary Certificate/ Diploma in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred. 
• Experience or Knowledge in working with Indigenous children and families. 
• Knowledge and ability of appropriate guidance practices/techniques, and ability to work with high needs children (ADHD, behavioral)  
• Energy and ability to fit in and work effectively with a dynamic team working under pressure. 

Conditions of Employment:

• Medical clearance, TB test and open immunization record.
• Standard First Aid Certification and CPR.
• Class 5 Driver’s license with clear drivers’ abstract is an asset.
