Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Governance, this position is responsible for providing a full range of political and government communications and public relations functions and services throughout the organization and in the community, including the researching, planning, developing, analyzing, implementing and evaluating of communication and engagement strategies, plans and products.  The position applies a broad knowledge of communications, public relations, and engagement principles and approaches to support the CAFN’s goals.  
 
This position provides supervision and oversight of staff and contractors in areas including communication, and day-to-day attendance and financial support in Haines Junction.    The Communications Manager assists the Director of Governance with a variety of projects, events, and other tasks as required.  
 

The position also provides political strategic communication advice and support to Chief and Council, Management Committee, and other committees as required. 

Education and Experience:
Grade 12 with successful completion of at least two years post-secondary training in journalism, public relations, communications, or related discipline and experience in First Nations or government communications; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience preparing key messaging and a wide variety of communications products such as speaking notes, website and social media content, advertisements, news releases and formal correspondence.  Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license; 
  • RCMP Security Clearance

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends, as required
  • Extended workdays may be required to accomplish tasks and meet workload demands during peak periods, as directed
