BluMetric Environmental Inc. (BluMetric) is looking for an environmental sampling assistant for a short-term contract in late May and early June, 2022 to support our project lead in completing water sampling at several waste management sites across the Yukon.  There is also opportunity to work a similar short-term contract in the fall (late August through to late September). This work will be completed during both weekdays and some weekend days, and will require travel out of Whitehorse to various Yukon communities for a duration of 1-10 days at a time.  This travel with require that the field team stays in motels where available and otherwise in Territorial campgrounds. 

The environmental sampling assistant will support the project lead during on site work by collecting water samples, completing field documentation, and assisting with packing and shipping of samples.  Some training will be provided to ensure that samples are collected according to established protocols.  Work will be completed in the outdoors and will occur in all weather conditions.  Sampling assistant will have to comply with the project specific Health and Safety Program designed to minimize risk during the sampling program.  The Health and Safely Program includes COVID-19 Pandemic measures when required.  BluMetric will provide the environmental sampling assistant with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and daily safety briefings relevant to the work program each day. 

The individual should have strong communication and organizational skills, enjoy working in the outdoors, and work well with a team.   In order to plan our spring sampling we need to finalize our team in the next two weeks, please let us know of your interest in the position and other relevant experience by May 13.  We can accept expressions of interest in the fall sampling event until August 1. 

Job Specific Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving a 4x4 vehicle
  • Ability to travel for 10 days at a time in late May through to late-June (approx. 3 weeks)
  • Gr. 12 Education with additional post-secondary education in environmental/engineering/earth science fields an asset
