Reporting to the Director of Education, this position is responsible for managing and supervising the operation of Tr’inke Zho, licensed for 60 spaces, and for the development and delivery of programming including the Infant, Toddler, Preschool, After School, Summer Daycamp, and Aboriginal Head Start Programs. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all Yukon Government (YG) Child Care regulations, ensuring that all Tr’ondëk Hwechin and Tr’inke Zho policies are adhered to, and maintaining a high standard of childcare.
An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Degree in Child Studies, Early Learning and Childcare, Early Childhood Development or a related discipline, or a Diploma combined with significant work experience in this area. An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Proficient knowledge of child development theory, practices and principles combined with practical experience developing programming specific to meeting children’s needs.
- Experience in human resources management including supervising, mentoring and performance managing staff.
- Experience with financial management, including budgets and resource management.
- Experience in file management, maintaining case records, researching and evaluating data, and assembling reports and recommendations.
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision-making and mediation skills.
- Ability to effectively manage relationships with clients, families, the community, co-workers and other departments and outside agencies.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
Assets:
- A minimum of three (3) years working with children / families delivering related services and programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of working with special needs children including, the effects of FASD, ADHD, Autism spectrum disorder and other physical disabilities, mental wellness and concurrent disorders, sound trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to develop / interpret, and promote adherence to policies, processes and procedures.
- Ability to regularly meet deadlines and effectively manage heavy workload within established priorities.
Conditions of Employment:

- Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driver abstract.
- Class 4 Driver License or willingness to acquire within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certification and CPR for children.
