Salary:  Level 3 Step 1 ($60,215.00 annually)

Reporting to the Tr'inkè Zho (Children’s House) Manager, this position is responsible for implementing a rotating daily menu that consists of preparing two snacks and a hot lunch for the children of the infant, toddler, preschool, after-school, and Aboriginal Head Start programs.  The Cook is responsible for ensuring Yukon Government (YG) and environmental health regulations, Canada and First Nations Food Guides and Tr'inkè Zho policies are followed at all times.  This position works in partnership with all program sections. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Cooking courses or equivalent experience.
  • Food Safe Certificate Level 1 & 2.
  • Experience in planning and implementing a menu.
  • Experience cooking traditional foods.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Canada Food Guide and Native Food Guide.
  • Experience or knowledge of working with First Nation children and families.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Energy and ability to fit in with a dynamic team working under pressure.

Assets: 

  • Willingness to attend relevant courses/workshops including cooking, Han language courses, etc. 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Medical Clearance with TB test and immunization update.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract.
  • TH101 cultural awareness training.
