KDFN is looking for passionate individuals who love working with children & youth.  The Youth Recreation Support Worker works as part of a larger team to help coordinate, facilitate and evaluate exciting and engaging recreation programs for KDFN children and youth (ages 6 – 18). This would be a great opportunity for individuals seeking full-time and/or sporadic work in a fun and dynamic environment! The Youth Recreation Support Worker will help coordinate and deliver programs and projects involving youth recreation.

Our nation’s recreation programming offers diverse experiences, and we need flexible individuals like you to join us! As a Youth Recreation Support Worker, you'll embark on exciting activities taking place in various settings including, but not limited to, community centers, outdoor landscapes, neighbouring communities, and other unique locations around Whitehorse, such as the CGC, movie theatres, wildlife preserves, and more. Energy, motivation, care, compassion, and being willing to have fun in a safe environment are the most important elements of the role.

Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume):  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.

  • Coursework and workshops in Recreation, Outdoor Education, Child Development or similar.
  • Prior experience working with children and adolescents, either in formal or informal settings; including work experience in schools, summer camps, community centers, after-school programs, or other youth-focused organizations.
  • Experience in coaching sports teams, leading youth groups, or organizing recreational activities.

Required knowledge and skills (what we assess):

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.

Conditions of Employment: A satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search to be submitted upon hire; valid class 5 Driver’s License (class 4 to be obtained within first 6 months). First Aid with CPR and Food Safe Level 1 are requirements to achieve within the first 3 months of employment

Job Requirements: This position requires flexibility of working hours to arrange and participate in evening and weekend recreational activities; programming will take place in variable weather conditions including rain and snow, and sometimes in more remote locations on the Land; must have the ability to maintain a healthy drug-free, self-sufficient lifestyle.
