Are you passionate about education and committed to supporting the academic journey of Kwanlin Dün First Nation citizens? Join our team as a Tutor and help create pathways to success for KDFN students from Kindergarten through adulthood and post-secondary levels.
About the Role
As a Tutor, you will work closely with KDFN citizens to help develop essential academic skills that lead to both immediate and long-term achievement. You’ll provide individualized and group tutoring, adapt learning strategies to meet diverse needs, and encourage a love for learning. Your approach will incorporate traditional First Nation ways of knowing and doing, fostering a culturally supportive environment that promotes student success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strong, supportive relationships with students, families, and educational staff.
- Create customized learning programs that cater to individual student needs and promote academic and personal growth.
- Deliver tutoring in various subjects for individuals and small groups.
- Provide a welcoming, safe, and respectful learning environment that values traditional KDFN culture.
- Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to the continuous improvement of tutoring services.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Post-secondary training in tutoring, education, or a related field;
- Experience with learners from ages 5 to adulthood;
- Experience with learners with different learning abilities; and
- Demonstrated familiarity with traditional First Nation knowledge in educational settings.
Required knowledge and skills (what we assess):
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer literacy for online learning and record-keeping
- Strong organizational abilities
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment:
Satisfactory criminal records check with vulnerable sector search. Standard First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months
