We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech and Language Pathologist to join our team. The successful candidate will work with youth, their families, and other partners within our community to assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and communication disorders. This role requires an understanding of the unique cultural contexts and health challenges faced by KDFN Citizens.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment results.
- Provide therapy and intervention services to individuals of all ages, focusing on culturally relevant and sensitive approaches.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, educators, and other health professionals to support the individual’s treatment plan and progress.
- Offer training and consultation to educators and caregivers on strategies to support communication development.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, interventions, and progress.
- Engage with community members to promote awareness and understanding of speech and language development and disorders.
Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology;
- Certification with the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) or eligibility for certification;
- Experience in the provision of person-centred case management services;
- Experience working with people who may have complex care needs: including physical and cognitive challenges, mental health issues and/or substance use challenges;
- Experience working in a First Nation community is an asset; and
- Experience working for a First Nation Government is an asset.

- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, parents, and community members
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and cultural competence
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and practices
- Case management skills include relationship building, interviewing, assessment, and advocacy
- Exercise discretion, objectivity, tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
- Active listening skills
Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 driver’s license, personal vehicle and driver’s abstract (class 4 or willingness to obtain is an asset); Satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search; regular updates are required; Standard First Aid & CPR is an asset (or willingness to obtain).
Job Requirements: Willingness to work flexible work hours including some evenings and weekends; Occasional travel locally to attend meetings or activities within the City of Whitehorse.
