As the People Relations Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring harmonious relationships between our organization and our dedicated team of employees. The position will provide coaching and support to supervisors, managers and directors across a broad spectrum which includes: performance management, interpretation of human rights and employment legislation and policy, workforce planning, interpretation, and explanation of Kwanlin Dün employment and human resources, including occupational health & safety legislation policies & processes, employer and employee rights and responsibilities, and performance management support.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Diploma in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or a related field. Equivalency will be considered for those with extensive relevant experience;
- Experience providing advice and support to partners/clients either through labour relations, accommodations, human resources or another advisory capacity;
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of HR practices and government/labour legislation such as the Canada Labour Code;
- Experience in recruitment and selection process and performance management; and
- Certification/Coursework in conflict resolution, Psychological Safety, or mediation is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to problem-solve;
- Detail oriented;
- Conflict Resolution skills; and
- Professional work ethic.
Required knowledge and skills (what we assess/may interview on):
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of employment: an acceptable pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search.
