The Kwanlin Dün Education and Social Development Department is committed to supporting citizens and their families in the pursuit of establishing a good quality of life. Program services and delivery are rooted in the values, beliefs and traditions preserved and passed down through generations of the people of KDFN. Reporting to the Manager of Education, the Occupational Therapist will provide a full range of culturally-infused, occupational therapy (OT) services including consultation, assessment, intervention, therapy and program development to support KDFN youth experiencing functional challenges in gross and fine motor development and sensory processing. This position is a key part of KDFN’s Circle of Care team and will work to their full scope of practice.
A citizen-centred, team approach is central to quality service delivery and to the establishment and implementation of departmental mandates, as set out in the KDFN Strategic Plan.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational or Rehabilitation Therapy;
- Current registration, or eligibility to register, with an approved Canadian Occupational Regulatory Organization;
- Experience in case management; including writing case notes, interviews/assessing, and collaborating with various stakeholders;
- Experience working with people who may have complex care needs: including physical and cognitive challenges, mental health issues and/ or substance use challenges; and
- Experience in providing Occupational or rehabilitation service delivery for First Nation children and youth, is an asset.
Required knowledge and skills (what we assess):
- Excellent ability to build and maintain relationships; including gaining trust/respect, using tact and diplomacy exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of various acts, regulations, and policies.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to promote cultural awareness.
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation governance structure, our community, heritage and culture, social structure, language and traditions, goals, and aspirations are essential for success in this position.
Conditions of employment: an acceptable pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search, valid class 5 Driver’s License, Access to a personal vehicle (asset only); Standard First Aid & CPR (asset only).
Job Requirements: Occasional travel within Yukon. Willingness to work flexible work hours including some evenings and weekends.
