This is an exciting opportunity to help lead a meaningful and impactful development while KDFN builds up Jackson Lake Healing Camp to a year-round operation. The Manager position will work alongside a project manager to transition our camp into a full-time facility. The team will work together to establish strategic planning for infrastructure needs, budgetary requirements, and staffing needs including orientation and professional development support, policy/procedure/guideline development, communication strategies and administrative coordination including records management and quality assurance.

 

The Manager role is responsible for developing culturally relevant year-round, sustainable and comprehensive land-based healing programming responsive to the community's needs in mental wellness, substance use disorder and intergenerational trauma. This position is integral to the program's success and will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community partners and providing supervision over the staffing teams.  

 

The Manager will ensure that programming meets the highest standards of best practices, honours the traditional healing practices of First Nations People and is guided by the strategic goals, visions and values of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. 

 

Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):

  • Degree in in business administration, health care, or social services or a related field;
  • Recent experience working in a healthcare or cultural wellness environment, projects or initiatives;
  • Experience in creating and implementing programs or activities, particularly those related to healing, wellness, or community support;
  • Proven experience working with First Nations communities, with a deep understanding of their cultures, traditions, and spiritual practices;
  • Experience leading and managing teams;
  • Experience managing logistics, budgets, and resources;
  • Experience in community engagement; including communication strategies, presentations, and facilitations is an asset; and
  • Experience developing policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and organization, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to foster trust, confidence, credibility, acceptance and effective working relationships with staff, community Elders, colleagues, senior management and other partners.
  • Strong organization, planning and follow-through.
  • Knowledge of First Nations healing practices and cultural values.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required knowledge and skills (what we assess/may interview on):

 

Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation governance structure, our community, heritage and culture, social structure, language and traditions, goals, and aspirations are essential for success in this position.

 

Conditions of employment: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and personal transportation, Valid First Aid and CPR level C certification or willingness to obtain within three months of hire, and Food Safe Level 1. Willingness to work occasional irregular hours including evenings and weekends. Acceptable criminal records check with vulnerable sector search before commencement of employment.

 

Job Requirements: The majority of this work takes place between an office environment in Whitehorse and indoors/outdoors at the Jackson Lake Healing Camp. Travel outside of the territory may be required 1-2 times per year.
