Jordan’s Principle aims to ensure Indigenous and First Nations children and youth can access all public services in a way that is reflective of their distinct cultural needs, taking full account of historical disadvantage linked to colonization, and without experiencing any service denials, delays, or disruptions related to their First Nations status. Jordan’s Principle applies to all public services including, Culture and Language, Recreation, Health and Medical, Social Supports, and Education.
The incumbent reports directly to the Manager, Family Support & Community Development, and works collaboratively with all members of the management and front-line support teams.
The incumbent will work alongside and provide informed support to the interdepartmental KDFN front line teams as well as children, youth and families with the development, submission, monitoring and case management of Jordan’s Principle requests.
The incumbent will work collaboratively with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) other stakeholders as well as other Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) departments to ensure streamlined service delivery. With the support of the KDFN Justice leadership team and the Finance Funding Officer, the navigator is responsible, for developing systems for efficiently and effectively tracking applications and financial commitments/spending. Coming alongside families and partners, the navigator will provide holistic support and advocacy for KDFN-specific applications.Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered
- relevant post-secondary education in human services, social services, health care, social work, education child & youth care, or a related field combined with experience working with First Nations governments;
- Experience in contributing to procedure and/or policy development;
- Experience working within procedural frameworks and policies to complete work tasks;
- Experience with Financial tracking; and
- Demonstrated knowledge of or experience implementing culturally informed beset practice models for family support/prevention is an asset; and
- Demonstrable knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation is an asset.
Required knowledge and skills (what we interview/assess for):
- Demonstrated knowledge of and willingness to learn the Kwanlin Dün social structure, traditions, language and cultural values;
- Strong ability to engage and build collaborative working relationships;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Financial Management/tracking skills;
- Ability to maintain confidential and handle sensitive information;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and detail-oriented records; and
- Knowledge of existing government program requirements, with a specific focus on Jordan's Principle applications and knowledge of Indigenous Service Canada practices is an asset;
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going inter-generational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment:
