We seek a passionate and dedicated individual to help steward our community’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.

Reporting to the Heritage Manager, the Culture and Heritage Steward coordinates and executes Heritage Unit activities and programming; contributes to heritage policy and planning; and ensures Chapter 13 and other heritage initiatives related to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Final Agreement are implemented.  The Culture and Heritage Steward is responsible for planning, directing and conducting research for programming, community initiatives, and internal and external heritage information; the analysis and development of heritage policy and procedures, and collections management; contributing to the implementation and long-term success of the Heritage Unit within Kwanlin Dün First Nation.

Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):

  • Post-secondary education in First Nations Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management, History, or equivalent experience working in a heritage-related field.
  • Experience developing, executing and managing heritage research and/or projects.
  • Experience interpreting heritage legislation, policies or procedures.
  • Experience working with heritage collections and culturally sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation Final and Self-Government Agreements and of Kwanlin Dün First Nation culture, languages, heritage, history, and socio-political structure is required for success.


Note: An equivalent combination of education & training, and considerable experience in the above areas may also be considered.      

Required Skills (what we asses on/may interview on):

  • Proven research skills and abilities
  • Project planning, implementation and management skills
  • Ability to effectively work in a multi-faceted team
  • Knowledge of interview techniques, intellectual property issues and community engagement strategies.
  • Computer competence in Microsoft Office operating system, databases, spreadsheets, outlook/e-mail etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate cross-cultural cultural sensitivity and representation.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve problems and deal with conflict situations.

Conditions of Employment: A valid Class 5 Driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle; Satisfactory Criminal Records Check; and Standard First Aid & CPR-C is an asset

Job Requirements: Occasional attendance at meetings in the evenings or on weekends is necessary.
