Note: An eligibility list may be used for additional vacancies including TERM and Auxiliary On-Call (AOC).
The Building Maintenance Worker will be responsible for the general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all buildings and facilities managed by Kwanlin Dün First Nation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs, and will take pride in ensuring our community spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming.
Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):
- Experience in building maintenance work or a related trade (inspecting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.);
- Experience diagnosing trouble in all types of building systems and determining the proper method, tools, supplies and equipment for maintenance or repair would be considered an asset
- Basic computer skills are an asset;
- Knowledge of the KDFN community, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations is required.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of building systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair various building issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Note: An equivalent combination of education & training, and considerable experience in the above areas will also be considered. We encourage those who don’t feel they meet all of the qualifications to still apply.
Required Skills (what we asses on/may interview on):
Conditions of Employment: A satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check, valid class 5 Driver’s License (class 1 is an asset). Fall Arrest, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), WHMIS, Hazard Assessment training, Fall Protection End User, Confined Space Entrant & Standby Person training, (or willingness to obtain as soon as is available) First aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire)
Job Requirements: Willingness to work variable hours/shifts. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to complete tasks within the required deadlines is a requirement of the position. Adhering to safety protocols, and wearing personal protective equipment and safety gear suited to the job and scope of work. Willingness to be on standby and work on a rotational call-out basis is required.
