Tenant Relations Officer - Term

Salary:  Level 6 Step 1 ($3,089.25 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Housing and Facilities Manager, the Tenant Relations Officer is the Department’s front-line liaison with tenants living in TH Government-owned rental housing. The incumbent develops and maintains positive relations with tenants, ensures they understand and comply with their responsibilities under their tenancy agreement, TH Government Housing Policy and the Yukon Residential Landlord and Tenants Act, and schedules required annual inspections and unit condition assessments. The incumbent assists tenants with tenancy-related forms and applications, assists with resolving tenant conflicts and addresses tenant concerns or complaints about their rental housing. The incumbent maintains the tenant records management system, supports the Housing Committee with administrative tasks, and contributes to the development of Citizen-informed programs that empower tenants to keep their homes well-maintained by minimizing damage, undertaking basic preventative maintenance and performing basic repairs themselves.   

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • A Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combined with a post-secondary diploma, certificate or coursework in office or business administration (or a related field), and two years of experience in a housing or property office setting (preferred); an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
  • Basic knowledge or experience with financial procedures, processes and budgeting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with databases (for example, eMaint) is an asset, as is basic knowledge of a trade or home repair and maintenance, and knowledge of the Yukon Residential Landlord and Tenants Act.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and Yukon housing programs and services is an asset.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, planning, scheduling and time management skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to deal tactfully and respectfully with Citizens, jëje’in and the general public.
