Reporting to the Tr’inke Zho Manager, the Summer Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for implementing, coordinating and supervising developmental, social, recreational and cultural programing for children (ages 6-12) attending Tr’inke Zho’s Summer Day Camp Program. The incumbent supervises and supports Summer Day Camp Leaders and Youth Summer Day Camp Leaders in developing and implementing a weekly curriculum of programs and activities for children to learn about, experience and explore Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in culture, language and traditional knowledge in support of lifelong learning. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that Government of Yukon regulations and TH Government policies are followed at all times.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in early childhood education, or child and youth care, and experience working with children in an early childhood learning setting, including summer camps, outdoor recreational programs, afterschool programs or related environments. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
  • Experience supervising staff and working in a team environment.
  • Experience working with First Nation children and families.
  • Knowledge of TH culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, and the intergenerational impact of Residential Schools.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development theory, principles and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with children with special needs (for example, ADHD, FASD and behavioral issues).
  • Working knowledge of Government of Yukon Child Care Act and regulations.
  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Standard First Aid Certification and CPR.
  • Class 5 Drivers license with clear driver's abstract; a Class 4 Driver's license is an asset.
