Student Weekend Farm Labourer – Term

Salary:  $17-20/hour

Reporting to the Youth Field Supervisor, this student position will assist in undertaking any number of farm tasks, including, seasonal site maintenance, plant management, animal care and land preparations on the TH Teaching and Working Farm located on the Traditional Territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in.

The TH Farm continues to build knowledge on northern growing and development of food security options through the incorporation of: traditional crops; non-traditional / staple food crops; medicinal herbs, plants, shrubs; animal husbandry; commercial products; and working towards building a year-round greenhouse. This year-round farm operation promotes the production of a fresh and sustainable source of food for community members. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Must be a TH citizen (ages 15-17 years). 
  • Appreciation for, and interest in, the Agricultural farming industry. 
  • Punctuality and dependability. 
  • Ability to take accountability for work schedule. 
  • Ability to develop effective cooperative working relations with a wide variety of individuals. 

Assets: 

  • Interest and experience with on the land work activities an asset. 
  • Interest and experience with on the land assessment and management an asset.
