On the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun and Ta’an Kwach’an First Nations, Grey Mountain Primary school is one of 8 Yukon schools who have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Southern Tutchone is the First Nations language learned at Grey Mountain Primary school. Grey Mountain Primary school is a K-3 school with approximately 58 students. Our educational professionals’ value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of the Grey Mountain community. This role of language and cultural teacher is critical in the successful development and implementation of the Southern Tutchone Language & Culture program. The focus for this position will be to teach, promote and support the Southern Tutchone language and culture in the school. It is imperative that one be able to maintain positive relationships with primary students and offer a language and culture program that is engaging and culturally relevant (on the land and experiential for example).

and experience:

• Demonstrated language proficiency (read, write and speak) or a desire to learn the Southern Tutchone language to deliver the Southern Tutchone language and culture program at the primary level;

• Demonstrated and on-going commitment to improve language proficiency;

• Extensive knowledge and awareness of either Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Kwanlin Dun First Nation, Ta’an Kwachan Council culture, traditional practices, values and beliefs as well as a good understanding of the past and current issues in education, heritage and languages with a view to past, the present and the future;

• Strong interest and ability to teach the Southern Tutchone language and culture as a second language;
• Strong classroom management skills; 
• Ability to adapt and mod ify curriculum to address students ’ needs and gifts to ensure that all students experience success in this program;
• Ability to work as a team member and a willingness and enthusiasm to participate in all staff meetings, school wide functions and initiatives, as well as Yukon First Nations Language Teacher professional development;
• Ability to connect and collaborate with school-based staff, parents and/or caregiver;
• Willingness to actively promote Southern Tutchone language and culture within school programming and environment .

• Preference will be given to Southern Tutchone language speakers who are citizens of
Champagne & Aishihik First Nations, Ta'an Kwach'an Council or Kwanlin Dün First Nation;
• Successful applicant will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check prior to
starting work.
