This job posting is recruiting for multiple Senior Assessment Officer and Technical Assessment Officer positions. A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates.

Eligibility

  • An undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary training in environmental science, social science or a similar field of study is preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered.
  • General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nation Agreements, is required.
  • Management experience, including ability to supervise and lead teams or procurement processes, contracting, and overseeing project deliverables is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.

Location:

The Senior Assessment Officer or Technical Assessment Officer may work from one of YESAB’s six designated office locations, which are:

Dawson City – Haines Junction – Mayo – Teslin – Watson Lake – Whitehorse

The Senior Assessment Officer, reporting to the Assessment Manager, will be a part of the Assessment Unit. The Senior Assessment Officer is responsible for:

  • Managing an Assessment Team to ensure that assessments are conducted in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
    • This includes providing advice and recommending strategies, as well as guidance and training on assessment practices, YESAB policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and accountability.
  • Developing environmental and socio-economic assessments, which includes preparing detailed recommendation reports, identifying environmental and socio-economic effects and mitigation measures, and supports assessment recommendations.
  • Participating as a member of the YESAB’s Assessment Unit by contributing to the development and improvement of YESAB’s assessment policies and procedures based on project and supervisory insights.

The Technical Assessment Officer, reporting to the Assessment Manager, will be a part of the Assessment Unit. The Technical Assessment Officer is responsible for:

  • Developing environmental and socio-economic assessments, which includes preparing detailed recommendation reports, identifying environmental and socio-economic effects and mitigation measures, and supports assessment recommendations.
  • Overseeing procurement processes and manages contracts with external consultants or contractors who support technical assessments.
    • This includes ensuring contract deliverables align with assessment objectives, are completed on time, and meet quality standards.
  • Conducting research and maintaining awareness of relevant technical and scientific information and traditional knowledge related to projects and emerging trends in environmental and socio-economic impact assessment practice.
