The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition (YAPC) administers the federal government’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy within the Yukon. Reaching Home supports the goals of the National Housing Strategy, in particular, to support vulnerable Canadians in maintaining safe, stable and affordable housing and to reduce chronic homelessness nationally by 50% by fiscal year 2027 to 2028.

YAPC works with a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to ensure that Reaching Home funding is used to help ensure that citizens who are homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless are adequately supported through quality and culturally appropriate programs and services. This position reports to the Executive Director and works with two other Reaching Home Program Officers. The Program Officer:

  • Solicits and screens applications for programs and services as recommended by the CAB through the Reaching Home Funding Sub-Committee (RHFS)
  • Contracts sub-project funding recipients
  • Develops and implements monitoring strategies
  • Monitors financial and activity reports of sub-project agreements
  • Works with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) representatives to meet all federal reporting requirements
  • Interprets and applies ESDC directives and terms of YAPC contract to ensure legal requirements are fulfilled
  • Supports sub-project agreement holders to complete results reporting including site visits

Qualifications/Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in project management, administration, financial management, monitoring and evaluation
  • Demonstrated competence in office systems and computer software particularly Excel
  • Hold excellent organization and time management skills
  • A relevant post-secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline e.g. financial/office management, planning, or community development OR relevant project management experience
  • Strong writing, reading, listening, and verbal communication skills
  • Able to exercise discretion, compassion, and empathy and maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the local not-for-profit sector is an asset
  • Working knowledge of community issues related to homelessness and systems change
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement to perform all assigned duties
  • Ability to work under pressure, with shifting priorities and tight deadlines while exercising a sense of humour!

This position will work out of the YAPC office at 509 Hanson St., Whitehorse, Yukon

Some travel required, own vehicle preferred

Additional Information:
Hourly wage between $28 and $32 based on experience
