Overview 

Queer Yukon Society is looking to hire a Programming Coordinator for a year long contract to execute the planning and organization of Pride 2024 in Whitehorse, Watson Lake and Dawson between July 15th and August 30th 2024, as well as programming initiatives throughout the year at the Whitehorse location. 

The Programming Coordinator will be responsible for conducting outreach activities, recruiting donors and sponsors, organizing staff and volunteers, working with the Communications team to support marketing efforts, and working collaboratively with Community Engagement Coordinators for Watson Lake and Dawson City Pride. Create and maintain report templates and spreadsheets, and other related tasks. 

Duration of contract: 12 months, through end of December 2024 (renewable based on funding)

Location: Any community in the Yukon  

Hours: 35 hours per week 

Wage: $38.45/hour 

Benefits: Organizational benefits plan (or 4% of base salary in lieu of benefits) includes coverage for: prescriptions, dental care, paramedical (e.g. counseling, massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractors, etc.), vision care, life insurance, and disability insurance. 3 weeks paid vacation per year (6%); Flexible schedule; Generous paid holidays and office closures.

Equipment: Employees will be provided necessary equipment to complete tasks. 

This is a unionized position with YEU local Y019.

Responsibilities include: 

●  Coordinate and facilitate the production of 3 Pride Festivals across the Territory in Whitehorse, Dawson City and Watson Lake.

  • Weekly or bi-weekly meetings with Community Engagement Coordinators in Whitehorse, Dawson and Watson to organize Pride collaboratively in all three locations. 
    • Working collaboratively with Local Curator/Coordinator in Dawson City
    • Working collaboratively with Local Curator/Coordinator in Whitehorse
  • Delegating tasks to Community Engagement Coordinators in all three locations
  • Run Monthly Pride Update team meetings to update all staff on process of pride planning
  • Work with the Admin Team to manage budgets for all 3 festivals, hire local curators etc.
  • Work with Communications and involve them in early planning to execute clear marketing strategy 
  • Hiring and training event staff and volunteers
  • Must be available on site for all Pride Festival events (travel expenses will be covered by Queer Yukon)
  • Coordinate, oversee and execute community events at The Cache in Whitehorse
    • Work with (and build relationships with) local curators, community members and staff to program the space based on community needs, staff capacity and budgets
    • Site managing these events and staffing them based on needs
    • Support with Drop In
    • Manage programming budgets
  • Working collaboratively with Admin Team and Communications to execute projects
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and guidelines as set by Queer Yukon.
  • Participate in relevant staff and team meetings.

●   Keep your workspace(s) tidy and well organized, maintain responsibility for Pride Festival equipment. 

●  Ensure necessary evaluation data for funders is collected during the funding period. 

● Draft interim and final reports for funders and ensure that they are submitted on time. 

● Other duties as mutually agreed upon, according to capacity.

The ideal candidate will have: 

● A strong knowledge of or first-hand experience with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community 

● Anti-racist and/or any other anti-oppression training or experience 

● A strong knowledge or experience with Yukon’s First Nations communities 

● Experience in: coordinating events, working with curators and artists, facilitating group discussions, working on committees, securing donations and sponsorship, and/or working in the non-profit sector, managing staff, developing and executing projects with many moving pieces 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

● Bilingualism in French (not required but an asset)

● Bilingualism in ASL, or a Yukon First Nations language would be considered an asset 

● Basic familiarity with Gmail, Google Drive, Zoom, project management tools, Facebook and Instagram would be considered an asset 

● Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
