Plant Operator – Aishihik, Yukon

The Opportunity:  Permanent, Full Time Position - Position # 92-12:  Posting Date November 8, 2021

     

Yukon Energy is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory. Our plant facilities are on the Traditional Territory of Yukon First Nations. There are 14 First Nation in the territory, and we work within these Traditional Territories in all our business operations.

What will you do?

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled worker to join our Thermal Maintenance team. The primary focus of this position will be the safe and efficient operation of the electrical generating units, plants, and their respective auxiliary equipment.

 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Knowledge at the grade 12 level plus some vocational training in light maintenance
  • Operation of heavy equipment, several years of previous related work experience
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer software application
  • Rigging and hoisting certification
  • A valid Yukon class driver’s license
  • A valid First Aid certificate
  • Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment
  • Capacity to thrive while living and working alone in a remote environment

Competitive Compensation:  $ 30.79- $36.77 per hour; + Northern Bonus’, Location Allowance and company housing.

What are the working conditions?

 

The Aishihik hydro plant, located about 110 kilometrers northwest of Whitehorse, has provided renewable electricity to Yukoners since 1975. The Aishihik facility is located a remarkable 110 metres underground. It is the first underground power plant north of the 60th parallel in the western world.
