Job Summary

Under the direction of certified Utility Systems Operators, this incumbent will assist in the installation, operation, maintenance
and repair if the water distribution, and wastewater and storm water collection systems. 
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in to maintain, service and repair fire hydrants, valves, etc. and maintain records. 
2. Assist with thawing of water and sewer services, sewer and storm mains and setting up pumps for dewatering. 
3. Assist with implementation of the summer Vactor program, including flushing of manholes, storm and sewer mains and
maintain program records. 
4. Move equipment and material to and from job sites and perform labour duties. 
5. Read and interpret maps, blue prints, and service records. 
6. Answer and/or refer enquiries and complaints from the general public to the appropriate department. 
7. Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards. 
8. Act as System Maintenance Person 1 or Warehouse Person as assigned. 
9. Other related duties.

Position Requirements
Working Conditions
Work is carried out in an outdoor environment with continuous exposure to disagreeable conditions such as dust/dirt,
fumes/odours, extreme noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, bodily waste/fluids, human waste, fats, oils, rancid
food grease, raw sewage, hazardous chemicals and will occasionally include confined spaces.
Knowledge and Skills
Completion of Grade 12 or GED
Confined Space Entrant and Attendance certificate or ability to obtain within 1 year
Atco Electric Yukon Electrical Safety Course or ability to obtain within 1 year
Standard First Aid, CPR Level C or ability to obtain within 3 months
Fall Arrest or ability to obtain within 1 year
Traffic Control or ability to obtain within 6 months
Class 5 with ability to obtain Class 3 driver's license with Air Endorsement within 12 months 
Previous experience 2 years - equipment operation, pipe laying or trades training
On-the-job experience - 6 months
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. 
Examples of Required Equipment to Operate
Service trucks, van truck, ride-on compactors, skid steer, Vactor, truck/van, steamer, refuse packer truck, hand tapping tools,
metal detectors, forklift, dewatering pumps, various generators, electric-rota-router, jack hammer, electric winch/crane, hot
water thaw pumps, manual sewer tapes, tampers/packers, power and hand tools, gas detectors, winch/tripod/harness, heaters,
and computer with applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, ERP and Maintenance Management System.
