Reporting to the Manager of Uncles’ House, the Support Worker is responsible for being supportive of the physical, spiritual, cultural and emotional needs of adult, male, KDFN citizens using the Drop-In program at Uncles’ House. This position supports men with access to nutritious meals, social activities and community connections when accessing Uncles’ House.

The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure that Uncles’ House is a safe, respectful and harmonious environment, while supporting and encouraging community members to access the services and programming offered. A key requirement of this position is having an understanding of the impact and legacy of the Residential School system on community members and their families.

Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume):  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.

  • previous experience in working with and supporting vulnerable Indigenous people or lived experience and traditional knowledge related to KDFN culture, customs, protocol and community are considered assets for this position.
  • course work in addictions, counselling, facilitation and crisis management are also considered assets;

Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):

  • has awareness of KDFN traditional knowledge, culture, ceremonies and traditions;
  • is familiar with the KDFN community, and the various family groups and related dynamics;
  • has well-rounded knowledge of the history, culture and traditions of other Yukon First Nations;

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.


Conditions of Employment: 

  • (both are mandatory conditions of employment for all KDFN staff), and adhere to the provisions of the Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act and Health Information Privacy Management Act (HIMPA), including any policies related to confidentiality, and the use and disclosure of personal information;
  • possess a current First Aid & CPR-C certificate or able to attain one within 1 month of hire
  • possess a Tuberculosis (TB) clearance;
  • Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance prior to commencement of work; and
  • possess a Food Safe Level 1 Certificate, or willing to obtain one within two months of being hired.
