Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a visionary and community-driven leader to serve as Director of Health & Wellness. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for the overall leadership and operations of the Natsʼekhì Kų̀ Health Centre and the delivery of health and wellness services for KDFN citizens and community members. The Director will champion a holistic approach to care that integrates traditional teachings, land-based practices, and modern health strategies. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director will foster cultural safety, strong partnerships, and innovative programs that promote healing, wellness, and resilience.
Please see the job description link at the bottom of the ad for more detailed information about the role.Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, business administration, health sciences, mental health, or social work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Progressive leadership experience (typically 5–7+ years) in health, wellness, social services, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in people leadership — building and mentoring teams, managing performance, and fostering professional development.
- Experience working in Indigenous or community-based contexts, with a demonstrated understanding of cultural safety, intergenerational trauma, and holistic wellness approaches.
- Experience building partnerships with governments, community organizations, and health/wellness agencies.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic plans or initiatives in diversity and inclusion.
- Experience managing budgets and financial accountabilities.
Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):
- Strong, relationship-based leadership grounded in integrity, collaboration, and cultural awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and engage effectively with Indigenous communities, governments, and organizations.
- Strategic thinker with proven skills in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, conflict resolution, and the ability to influence outcomes.
- Experience developing and leading culturally relevant health and wellness services, ideally in a First Nation context.
- Commitment to mentoring, developing people, and fostering a positive, values-based organizational culture.
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
