Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a qualified Privacy and Records Management Officer to join their Executive Council Office team. Reporting to the Director of Governance, they will be responsible for ensuring compliance with KDFN access and privacy legislation and will work to develop policies and practices that uphold the privacy rights of citizens, beneficiaries, and employees.

 As the Privacy Officer, the incumbent will be the main point of contact for all privacy and freedom of information inquiries and will provide guidance on information given to outside agencies, other governments, KDFN citizens, and the general public where applicable. They will participate in the development of legislation, policies, and procedures related to privacy and freedom of information and provide specialized training to staff when necessary.

 Our successful candidate should have a solid understanding of records management principles and processes, strong communication skills, and effective time-management skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The ability to research, evaluate, and present options and plan program development and implementation with sound analytical thinking, research, prioritization, and execution skills will be required for success in this role.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in law, information science, public administration, records
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in privacy, access to information, or related regulatory roles required;
  • Experience working with or for First Nations or Indigenous governments is a strong asset.

Required knowledge and skills 

  • Strong knowledge of privacy legislation (FIPPA, HIPMA) and information management practices.
  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and overseeing privacy and access policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide advice to senior leadership.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Leads investigations and coordinates responses to privacy breaches or data loss incidents.
  • Maintains records of all privacy incidents and their resolutions.

Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nations community, heritage and culture, social structure and traditions is required for success in the position.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Satisfactory pre-employment Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Driver’s license & access to a personal vehicle is an asset.
  • Certification in Privacy (e.g. Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C)
  • Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM)
  • Certified Health Information Management professional (CHIM)
  • Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC)) a preferred asset, willingness to obtain one/some is required.
  • HIPMA Training Certificate required

 Salary: $82,464.20-$145,217.80 per annum ($45.31-$79.79 per hour) Level 8* plus benefits
