The Plumber will report to the Operations and Maintenance Manager and is responsible for directing and coordinating crews and staff to install and repair plumbing components of properties owned by the Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN).
This position entails overseeing other staff, apprentices, training, production, and safety at various construction or maintenance sites, where projects may be at different stages of development. Regular inspections of plumbing components of homes and community buildings and reporting will also be part of the role.
Additionally, the incumbent will provide recommendations and solutions to improve maintenance systems in KDFN rental properties. They will also be responsible for assigned Plumbing work orders and after-hours on-call jobs when necessary. Duties include installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing components of KDFN residential homes and community buildings. The Operations & Maintenance Manager will assign the scope of work through work orders. Subject to funding availability, the incumbent will also develop and implement a Plumbing apprenticeship program designed to enhance apprentices' skills and meet their educational needs.
Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education, combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified below, will equally be considered.
- Licensed Red Seal Plumber status is mandatory with significant progressive home, building construction or maintenance experience;
- Recent successful supervisory experience; experience mentoring and developing students in the trade is an asset.
- Considerable experience managing small projects including completing routine building maintenance and plumbing projects is required;
- Working knowledge and experience using computers, tablets including spread sheets and databases is an asset;
- Experience working successfully with minimal supervision, with the ability to complete tasks and assigned duties within the allotted time frame is required.
- Knowledge of Federal, Territorial and KDFN Occupational Health and Safety regulation, policies and procedures, Federal and territorial building standards and guidelines is required.
Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):
- Licensed Red Seal Plumber in good standing, with significant progressive experience in residential, commercial, or building maintenance environments
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, with a proven ability to mentor and develop apprentices or students in the trade considered an asset
- Extensive experience managing small-scale projects, including routine building maintenance and plumbing work
- Proficient in the use of computers and mobile devices (e.g., tablets), with working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases considered an asset
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and consistently complete assigned tasks within established timelines
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable Federal, Territorial, and KDFN occupational health and safety regulations, as well as relevant building codes, standards, and guidelines
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
