The Housing Support Liaison Worker plays a vital role in helping KDFN citizens access and maintain safe, affordable housing. Working closely with colleagues in the Tenancy Unit, other KDFN departments, and community agencies, this position provides direct support, advocacy, and guidance to individuals and families seeking housing stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide information and support to current tenants in the KDFN Rental Housing Program.
- Assist and advocate for KDFN citizens applying for housing through community agencies.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients.
- Offer advice and guidance on tenant rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act and KDFN housing policies.
Job Overview
Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Housing Support Liaison Worker is responsible for providing housing advocacy, navigation, and social housing-related services to Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) citizens; both those in KDFN’s rental housing program and those seeking housing support in the broader Whitehorse community.
Given the critical need for housing, the successful candidate must have a strong understanding of the social issues currently facing KDFN tenants and how these issues impact housing operations. This includes awareness of challenges such as homelessness, mental illness and addiction, domestic violence, child protection, and aging.
Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):
- Post-secondary level coursework in social work, social services or similar fields
- Considerable experience in the field of social services
- Experience providing housing support/advocacy is an asset, and in dealing with conflicts (conflict resolution/mediation or similar)
- Experience with confidential records & information management
Note: An equivalent combination of education & training, and considerable experience in the above areas will also be considered. We encourage those who don’t feel they meet all of the qualifications to still apply.
Required Skills (what we asses on/may interview on):
- Experience providing Client-centered communication to the public, in person, on the phone and by e-mail
- Solid working experience on computers, including fluency and proficiency with the Microsoft operating system, Excel, Word, Outlook and various databases and information systems.
- Knowledge of the social issues facing KDFN tenant populations and those affecting the operations of the Housing Program, including homelessness, mental illness and addiction, domestic violence, child protection and ageing is required
- Knowledge of leasing and housing terminology, KDFN rental housing policies and procedures and the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA)
- Knowledge of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, demographics, goals & aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment:- All employees are expected to follow all KDFN policies and guidelines in a harmonious and cooperative manner, creating a team approach in their duties for KDFN’s future success. Automatic Payroll-Deduction of rent and any other financial obligations owed to KDFN is a prerequisite to employment by KDFN government for all positions. Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Kwanlin Dün personnel.
- An acceptable criminal records check. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, personal vehicle and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Use of a personal vehicle may be required occasionally for this position. Mileage will be reimbursed, and financial assistance may be available to help offset any increase in insurance premiums, in accordance with policy. Occasional overtime may also be required and must be pre-scheduled or pre-authorized in advance
Salary: $68,286.40 - $111,001.80 per annum ($37.52-$60.99 per hour) (Level 6) *Plus Benefits
