Reporting to the Housing Manager, and working as part of the tenant relations team, the Inspector is responsible for viewing and recording the condition of homes owned by KDFN and updating/maintaining records of the physical aspects of the homes. The inspector’s responsibilities include the issuance of work orders and working with the maintenance team to establish priorities for work needed. Scheduling of planned maintenance and ensuring completion. Contributing to longer term planning and annual budgets by analysing condition assessments, working with capital planning tools and asset management policies are all part of this position’s role.
The incumbent works closely with the Housing Manager other department managers to best allocate resources to ensure KDFN maintains the value and integrity of homes and KDFN property assets.Required Qualifications (what we look/screen for on your resume):
- Journeyperson certified (i.e.: certified carpenter, electrician, plumber), OR housing maintenance/management diploma or equivalent, combined with a minimum of 5 years of successful progressive experience in building construction or maintenance;
- Knowledge of and experience in property and asset maintenance;
- Experience with regular and ad hoc reporting including providing input to a variety of reports for various agencies;
- Knowledge of and experience working within acts, policies, procedures and standards (i.e. applicable Federal/Territorial legislation, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) requirements, building codes and housing policies);
- Demonstrated knowledge of housing policies, regulations, and funding programs, particularly those relevant to First Nation communities.
- Knowledge of Kwanlin Dun First Nations community, heritage and culture, family structures and traditions is required for success in this position.

Conditions of Employment: A satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search to be submitted upon hire; valid class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Job Requirements: Travel within Whitehorse, KDFN community.
