The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking a Healthy Babies Healthy Generations (HBHG) Support Worker to join their Health & Wellness Team. Reporting to the Manager of Health Promotion, and working collaboratively with the HBHG Registered Nurse (RN), the HBHG Support Worker provides direct care and support to women, children, youth and families accessing care through Natsʼekhì Kų̀ Health Centre with a public health focus.
This position provides health promotion, disease prevention, intervention and support services to individuals and families in various health unit and community settings. Perinatal support is delivered with a strong focus on healthy childhood development through healthy nutrition and breastfeeding, traditional parenting and positive role modeling for children and families. It is crucial to have a deep understanding of the role trauma plays in the community as a result of residential schools and the challenges for intergenerational survivors.
The position ensures the provision of culturally safe health care to clients when accessing care at Natsʼekhì Kų̀ Health Centre and other health care facilities. The position is part of a larger team working with KDFN Health Centre staff, other KDFN departments and a wide variety of other local, territorial and federal organizations. Healthcare services are delivered based upon the strategic values, vision, goals and objectives of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation and Health Centre work plans.Essential Qualifications:
- Community Health Representative Training (1-2 years), Health Care Assistant or Personal Support Worker training with additional community health training or combination of equivalent health care training;
- Education, course work or experience in the areas of prenatal and postpartum care, breastfeeding support and child growth and development;
- A minimum one year of work experience in community health care, preferably in a First Nation setting;
- A significant understanding of the impacts of residential schools, intergenerational trauma and the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action;
- Experience using various pediatric and adult health assessment tools;
- Experience handling and transporting laboratory specimens.
Knowledge of Yukon First Nation people’s history and familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Note: Candidates with related considerable experience, course work or related training in the above areas will also be considered.Conditions of Employment:
- A pre-employment Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
- Valid Yukon class 5 driver’s license and maintain an acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C; Food Safe Level 1
- TB Clearance
- Immunization record
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate (willingness to obtain immediately upon hire)
- HIPMA Training Certificate (willingness to obtain immediately upon hire)
