Reporting to the Executive Director, the Economic Development Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, managing, implementing and evaluating current and prospective economic development activities for the KDFN Government. The Economic Development Director will be the first point of contact within KDFN for economic activities and will be responsible for determining if the opportunity lies in KDFN Government or for-profit business arm of the Nation. This position will also assist with identifying and implementing economic opportunities contained in the KDFN Final Agreement.
The Director is responsible and accountable for promoting the business and economic development interests within the KDFN community and in providing guidance to individuals and companies to establish, relocate, or expand their businesses within the traditional territory. This position will include working with all KDFN departments and to also provide assistance in the planning and coordination of community development projects.
The Director is responsible and accountable for the overall operation and management of the department, plays a key role in establishing and fulfilling the Department’s mandate and is responsible for achieving quality service delivery for the objectives and outputs of the strategic plan.
Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Degree in Economics, Business, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field, combined with relevant experience in economic development, community planning, or related areas;
- Demonstrated experience working at a senior level, with the ability to plan, manage, and evaluate programs and initiatives;
- Supervisory or management experience, including supporting and developing staff;
- Proven ability to conduct research and analysis, and to prepare proposals, business plans, and reports; and
- Experience working with or for First Nation governments or communities is a strong asset.

- Cultural Awareness & Respect: Understands and respects Kwanlin Dün First Nation values, culture, and community-driven approaches to economic development.
- Adaptability & Resilience: Responds constructively to changing priorities and maintains professionalism under pressure.
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment:- Valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle; Satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search. Occasional need to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in order to attend, participate or manage special events. Attendance at the General Assemblies is required.
Salary: $93,329.60 - $164,364.20 per annum ($51.28 - $90.31per hour) Level 9 *plus benefits
