Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a Cook to join our Health and Wellness team. Reporting to the Manager of Support Services, this role works alongside the kitchen team to coordinate daily kitchen activities and support a collaborative environment that honours traditional practices. The position prepares nutritious, culturally appropriate meals and snacks for clients accessing Health Department programs, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Meals shall be prepared based on the Canadian Food Guide and the Traditional Yukon Food Guides. Services will be delivered in alignment with the strategic values, vision, goals, and objectives of Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education, combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified below, will equally be considered.
- Certificate or Diploma in professional cooking program or similar from a recognized institution.
- Food Safe Certification;
- Knowledge of and experience in applying Canadian standards on nutrition;
- Knowledge of traditional food gathering, preservation and cooking techniques;
Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):
- Proficient in operating industrial and domestic kitchen equipment, as well as standard office equipment
- Knowledge and skill in preparing a variety of meals for groups.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with experience in monthly planning to meet client requirements
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and sound judgment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated, energetic, courteous, reliable, and punctual.
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment:
- CPR, First Aid
- Food Safe Level 1 certificate is mandatory, Level 2 would be an asset.
