Job Summary:

The incumbent monitors, facilitates, delivers and supports a diverse range of recreational programs, including organizing and providing childcare services and activities for various age groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize, and deliver recreational activities for various age groups and provide child care services as assigned.
  2. Monitor recreational activities/programs/events, including materials and equipment set-up and take down.
  3. Maintain, inspect, distribute and collect equipment, ensuring all are kept in good working order in accordance with established safety standards.
  4. Provide support for recreational areas as assigned, including trouble-shooting facility booking issues.
  5. Respond to inquiries, provide facility orientation and distribute information regarding various programs.
  6. Compile statistics, maintain accurate records and provide feedback on recreation programs.
  7. Perform light custodial and maintenance duties.
  8. Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
  9. Other related duties.

This position contains elements necessary for the identification and evaluation of the job. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties.

Position Requirements
Working Conditions:

The majority of work is performed in a public recreation setting environment with some exposure to noisy conditions and bodily fluids. Hours of work between 06:00 and 01:00, Sunday to Saturday. Regular evening and weekend work is required.

Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Grade 10.
  • 1 year previous experience in child care, day camp or recreational environment dealing with children/youth and 3 months on-the-job training.
  • RCMP Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR, Level C.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) (8 hours).
  • Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Customer service training and/or experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Examples of Equipment to Operate:

Vehicle, first aid and a variety of sporting equipment and general office equipment, including computer skills to operate software programs related to ERP systems, spreadsheets, word processing, electronic mail, PowerPoint, etc.
