Medical Travel Officer - Term

Salary:  Level 7 Step 1 ($3,410.25 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Medical Travel Officer has primary responsibility for managing, coordinating and processing Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Medical Travel Advances. This position is responsible for invoicing NIHB for all Medical Travel advances, receipts all NIHB payments received, updates excel spreadsheet relating to medical travel and reconciles all medical travel accounts in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting principles. The Medical Travel Officer also acts as a liaison between NIHB and the travelling client. The incumbent performs these duties at a high level of customer service in liaising with Departments, Health Canada and Citizens. The position ensures that all accounting functions are performed and recorded accurately, within required timelines and are properly backed up with appropriate documentation. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Completion of a Grade 12 diploma, supplemented by a diploma or coursework in bookkeeping or accounting, along with two years of experience working in a finance or accounting office; an equivalent combination of education, training, skills, knowledge and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AccPac and electronic financial databases.
  • Good working knowledge of financial procedures and processes, including but not limited to General Ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint).
  • Strong planning, organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prepare documentation accurately from verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with TH Government legislation, policies, procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
