Department: RecreationJob Summary:
The incumbent provides constant safety supervision of patrons, provides emergency care for minor and major first aid situations and, upon experience, may mentor new staff. Tests and maintains water quality and assists with the implementation of special events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors pool users and enforces established standards of conduct and decorum, responds to major and minor emergency situations, responds to enquiries from public and follows established safety and emergency procedures.
- Performs light custodial maintenance and minor repairs to facility and equipment
- Assists in the inventory and stocking of first aid and program supplies.
- Performs water tests and keeps maintenance records.
- Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, assists in implementing specialized aquatic activities and events.
- Attends seasonal in-service to maintain standards
- Acts as Head Guard as assigned.
- Follows, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
- Other related duties.

Position Requirements
Working Conditions:
Exposure to constant noise, extreme temperatures when in and out of the water, and humidity in the pool environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Grade 10 or 16 years of age
- Lifeguard experience an asset
- National Lifeguard Pool Certification Option (NL)
- Standard First Aid/CPR Level C Certification
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems certification (WHMIS)
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Examples of Equipment to Operate:
Office equipment, computer with Microsoft Office applications, recreation management software, communications equipment, audio-visual equipment, first aid equipment.
