Labourer, Equipment Maintenance

Department: Fleet and Transportation Maintenance 

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, and Lead Hand the incumbent provides assistance to the Operations Equipment Maintenance area in completing their assigned tasks. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Pick-up and delivery of parts. 
  2. Assists Equipment Maintenance Parts Person with organizing parts room, assembling shelving and ordering supplies.
  3. Assist Equipment Maintenance Parts Person maintain shop, cold storage and Transit consumable inventory levels-perform weekly consumable inventory (i.e. hardware, vendor parts bins, oils, coolant, grease). 
  4. Assist with inventory counts.
  5. Assist Heavy Duty Mechanics with labourer tasks as required (i.e. lifting heavy parts in place, cleaning parts, replacing minor parts, assisting with servicing). 
  6. Clean shop and parts room areas.
  7. Maintain cleanliness of Operations fleet vehicles and equipment.
  8. Steam clean specific areas of vehicles or equipment before or after repairs.
  9. Follows, so far as reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards. 
  10. Act as Equipment Maintenance Parts Person as required.
  11. Other related duties.

Position Requirements
Working Conditions:

Hours of work: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day) Monday - Friday scheduled between 07:00-17:30. 

Exposure to inclement weather and extreme temperatures when driving to pick up and deliver parts and supplies.

Exposure to dangerous goods on regular basis and to disagreeable conditions daily in the shop such as dust, dirt, fumes, odours, grease, oil, and noise requiring hearing protection.

Ability to lift-up to 50 lbs regularly. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Minimum of 1 year previous related experience plus 6 months on the job training
  • Valid Class 5 drivers' license with clean drivers abstract
  • Standard First Aid & CPR
  • Forklift Operator Certificate is an asset or willing to obtain within 1 year
  • WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) - or willing to obtain within 1 year
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, suppliers and provide assistance in a variety of situations
  • Proven ability to concentrate, pay attention to detail, organize, and be a team player
  • Knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment parts
  • Must be mechanically inclined

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
