Kitchen Coordinator - Term
Department:  Governance & Executive Operations

Salary:  Level 7 Step 1 ($3,410.25 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Events and Consultations Coordinator, the incumbent coordinates the preparation, cooking, delivery and administration of catering services for TH Government events and functions, and administers the Department of Wellness’ Meals on Wheels and Community Luncheon programs. Duties include menu planning, managing food orders, coordinating community food deliveries and overseeing the preparation of nutritious meals (as per the Northern Canada Food Guide, and in accordance with traditional food preparation methods). The incumbent also assists with the coordination, butchering, packaging and labelling of wild meats. The incumbent supervises the Meals on Wheels/Community Luncheon Cook and multiple AOC cooks and cook’s helpers.   

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts or related program, with a minimum of three years of experience in food service or kitchen administration, and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with coordinating meal production in a commercial kitchen environment and for large gatherings (80+ attendees).
  • Thorough knowledge of TH meal programs, events and kitchen processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare traditional foods in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Organizational, administrative and time management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and Departmental clients.
  • Strong budget and project management skills.

Assets:  

  • Completion of food safety courses (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Northern Canada Food Guide is an asset. 

Conditions of Employment:
