Term: 37.5 hrs/week Starting ASAP until March 31, 2024The term of this position may be extended beyond March 31, 2024/moved into a full-time position with the confirmation of future funding.

Based in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the traditional territories of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Yukon Invasive Species is searching for an energetic, creative and self-motivated individual interested in the environment. We are looking for a digital education specialist to assist in various duties outlined below. If you’re interested in fun, varied and challenging opportunities we’d love to hear from you.

Duties include:

  • Digital Education Program Management: Manage and maintain YISC's online programs, including the Spotter’s Network, Be Plant Wise, and Clean Drain Dry. Look for opportunities to enhance these programs and develop new ones to engage different audience segments.
  • Digital Content Creation: Develop a variety of subject-specific public material, including educational videos and interactive online content, leveraging digital tools for effective science communication.
  • Website and Social Media Management: Maintain and update YISC's website and social media platforms. Create and post engaging content that promotes YISC's mission and initiatives, educates the public about invasive species, and encourages community involvement in invasive species management.
  • Partnership Development: Collaborate with partners on joint online initiatives. Consider partnering in programs like “Don't Let It Loose” targeting the aquarium trade.
  • Cultural Inclusivity: Strive to partner with First Nation government departments to incorporate First Nation languages. Provide services in French language in online content and programs, promoting cultural inclusivity in YISC's digital outreach.
  • Brand Awareness and Advertising: Maintain and enhance YISC's brand awareness in the digital sphere. Develop and implement digital advertising strategies to promote YISC's initiatives and events.
  • Data Analysis and Strategy Development: Track and analyze data on website and social media interactions. Use data-driven insights to refine digital strategies and enhance the effectiveness of online outreach.

This role is central to expanding YISC's digital footprint and making science-based knowledge about invasive species accessible to the public, contributing to YISC's mission of preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species in Yukon through public education and community engagement. 

Preferred skills:

  • Digital Literacy: The candidate should be proficient in using digital tools and platforms for content creation and distribution, including social media, video editing software, online learning management systems, and website CMS platforms.
  • Instructional Design: Skills in designing engaging, effective educational materials and learning experiences in digital formats.
  • Content Creation: The ability to create high-quality digital content, such as videos, infographics, and online course modules, to engage the audience and communicate the intended message.
  • Data Analysis: Competence in analyzing engagement and feedback data to assess the effectiveness of educational initiatives and to inform future improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with partners, community members, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Local Ecosystems: Familiarity with Yukon's ecosystems, native species, and potential invasive species threats would be highly beneficial.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, organize resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual: Proficiency in French or local First Nation languages would be a plus, given YISC's commitment to serving diverse communities.
