Job Description

We are seeking 1 qualified individual to join our team as Instructional Developer. Working under supervision of the Executive Director, the Instructional Developer will develop and deliver middle and/or high school STEM curriculum with a focus on software skills.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Adapt existing curriculum for Grades 5–8 to align with Yukon Department of Education standards, with a focus on block-based coding languages like Scratch.
  • Deliver curriculum-aligned programs and workshops directly to Grades 5–8 students in Yukon schools, supporting their learning in coding and digital literacy.
  • Develop a novel, grade-appropriate curriculum to teach Python-based coding to Grade 9 students, incorporating STEM-related applications (e.g., automotive technology, robotics).
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies in curriculum development, including interactive tools, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, whole child approach, and adherence to the Accessible Canada Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Where necessary, support program planning and implementation by liaising with partners to ensure alignment between curriculum and delivery logistics.
  • Contribute to program evaluation by developing and administering evaluation tools.
  • Ensure all instructional materials and programming activities comply with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold and follow all organizational policies, procedures, and codes of conduct, including those related to privacy and child safety.
  • Represent the organization professionally and positively in all interactions with school board representatives, teachers, students, parents, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical conduct when handling sensitive information related to programs, participants, and organizational operations.

Essential Qualifications

Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience developing or delivering STEM or coding curriculum, especially in block-based (e.g., Scratch) and Python programming.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian curriculum standards, especially Yukon and Ontario Ministry of Education requirements for Grades 5–9.
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience designing age-appropriate, project-based learning experiences in STEM or coding.
  • Ability to integrate career education tools and real-world STEM applications into curriculum (e.g., automotive tech, robotics).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and stakeholder engagement.
