Reporting to the Director of Heritage, this position is responsible for documenting and protecting the land-based heritage resources of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. The Heritage Officer provides technical expertise, conducts research, participates in various inter-governmental/party processes, and analyzes complex issues and provides recommendations to assist with decision making as it relates to Heritage, and to promote first nations approaches to Heritage Resource Management.
An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education and/or extensive experience in the Heritage/Cultural Resource Management field. An equivalent combination of education lived experience, community knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
- Strong on-the-land skills including working in remote settings required.
- Ability to manage projects and program budgets.
- Knowledge of, and working experience with, Yukon First Nations culture, heritage, traditions and history.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including technical writing, proposals, presentations, etc.
- Required Computer Skills – word-processing, database, research, mapping (ArcMap/View 9) and GPS.
- Experience planning and implementing remote field trips and programs.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills.
Assets:
- Experience working with Elders an asset.
- Valid Possession Acquisition License an asset.
- Boat experience an asset.
Conditions of Employment:
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract.
- Standard First Aid and willingness to take Wilderness First Aid.
- ATV Training.
- TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
