First Nations Program
Northerm Windows and Doors, a 100% First Nations-owned company, is excited to launch an Apprentice Glazier position specifically for First Nations citizens. Our goal is to find and mentor exceptional talent, with the successful applicant being trained over the next four years by a Red Seal Journeyman Glazier to become a Journeyman Glazier.
Job Summary
As a Glazier Apprentice, you will learn the skills and techniques of the glazing trade under the guidance of experienced glaziers. This role provides hands-on experience in measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing glass and aluminum products while assisting on a variety of commercial and residential projects. You will develop your skills in a safe, supportive, and practical work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Learn on-site trade skills under the guidance of senior glaziers.
- Measure, cut, fit, and install glazing materials in windows, doors, and other products.
- Assist with fabrication and installation of architectural aluminum and glass products.
- Load, unload, and move glass and aluminum materials safely.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
- Follow instructions, drawings, and safety procedures.
- Participate in repair or replacement of damaged glass.
Installation Projects May Include:
- Storefronts, doors, vents, and hardware
- Curtain wall systems
- Skylights
- Flashings and break shapes
- Sealed units, mirrors, showers
- Specialty glass and aluminum products
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not mandatory).
- Registered as a Glazier Apprentice or interest in registering as one.
- Successful completion of Grade 10 Math and English is a prerequisite to enroll in the course.
- Prior experience in construction is an asset.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in the glazing trade.
- Ability to safely handle glass, aluminum, and other materials.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working at heights.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
