Job Description

Title: Forestry Hand Faller  
Term: Temporary Employment
Hourly Pay: ~$21  - $30 (pay is commensurate with education and years of experience)
Schedule: 8 to 10-hour shifts Monday to Friday
Location: Copper Haul Road, Whitehorse

Lumberfolk Forest Consultants is seeking a Forestry Hand Faller to join their team! The position is temporary employment from December 2nd – March 7th with a break over the Christmas holidays from December 23 – January 3rd. The Hand Faller will be responsible for working with a team to create a fuel break from potential oncoming wildland fire and to create a staging area for tactical defense in the event of an approaching wildland fire.
 
Duties
Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Onboarding
  • Performing daily pre-trip inspections on company vehicles
  • Implementing daily safety talks and safety plans
  • Using a chainsaw to cut trees while retaining a stem spacing distance of 4 to 6 meters
  • Limbing retained merchantable timber to 2 meters in height
  • Bucking merchantable timber in 4-6 foot lengths for public salvage of fuelwood
  • Cutting and burning all non-merchantable timber
  • Driving company snowmobiles

Lumberfolk Forest Consultants Ltd. was founded in 2024. Lumberfolk provide forest management and land use planning services within all forest types across Canada. The company works with landowners to develop and design land use plans that meet their environmental, social, and economic goals and objectives. Lumberfolk have experience designing inventories and methodologies for data collection, summarizing results and mapping for operational planning, analyzing scenarios, reporting on assumptions, limitations, risks and sensitives, developing monitoring plans, and making recommendations. Services also include timber harvesting, block layout, reconnaissance, timber cruising, forest inventory data collection, silviculture surveys, and field trainings. Based out of Whitehorse, YT, the Lumberfolk team is looking for a hand faller to work Monday – Friday over the next few months to complete a handfalling prescription in Whitehorse. Transportation to the Copper Haul Road may be arranged if needed.  

Qualifications

Desired qualifications for this position include:

  • Chainsaw Operator and Safety Training
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in a team environment
  • Experience using a chainsaw
  • Knowledge of the outdoors in the Yukon Territory
  • Standard First Aid is considered an asset
