Description:

A new funding year is approaching, and we are looking to expand our team!

First Nation Education Advocates work during the school year in Whitehorse-based schools, providing direct support to Indigenous learners and their families. Outside of the school year, cultural and land-based programs are developed and delivered by the Advocates to maintain connections, continue learning and sharing with one another. Our Education Advocates work to build trusting relationships, deliver cultural and land-based learning opportunities, and collaborate with our partners to ensure Indigenous students’ needs are being met.

Through offering ‘wrap-around support,’ First Nation Education Advocates improve academic outcomes, work to increase social & academic engagement, and ensure students see their culture reflected in their education.

Who We are Looking For
We are seeking positive, healthy role models who are comfortable working with Indigenous learners 4 – 19 years of age. You demonstrate initiative in dynamic school environments, advocate for our learners and are knowledgeable and grounded in Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing. Adaptability and collaboration are key, as is the ability to build supportive trusting relationships and culturally responsive learning environments.

Hiring preference is provided to those who identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Metis or Inuit/Inuk). If you are Indigenous, please include your family and community affiliation on your cover letter or resume.
