Description:

At the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate (YFNED), we are committed to a holistic approach to education, one that extends beyond the classroom to connect school, home, families, and community. By bridging these connections, we support Indigenous students in achieving academic success, strengthen their identity through culturally grounded learning, and build confidence through land-based experiences.

About the Role

First Nation Education Advocates work within Whitehorse-based schools to provide direct support to students and their families. Advocates build trusting relationships, deliver cultural and land-based learning opportunities, and collaborate with school staff and community partners to ensure students’ needs are being met. By offering wrap-around support, they help improve academic outcomes, increase attendance and engagement, and ensure students see their culture reflected in their education.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who are positive role models, comfortable taking initiative in dynamic school environments, and grounded in Yukon First Nations history, culture, and values. Ideal candidates are adaptable and collaborative, and are able to build trusting relationships while contributing to a supportive and culturally responsive learning environment.

Hiring preference will be provided to those who identify as Indigenous – please self-identify if you are Indigenous.
