Finance Director

Permanent Full Time
Salary: LT-2 - $104,094.89-$146,388.99 (depending on experience)

Overview
Kluane First Nation (KFN) is seeking a skilled Finance Director who is responsible for the overall financial management of KFN Government. This key role is responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and policy development while ensuring accountability and transparency in the management of KFN’s financial resources. The Finance Director works closely with KFN’s Executive Director, Departmental Directors, Council and Auditors to ensure that financial practices align with the KFN’s strategic goals, laws, and values.

Education and Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA)
  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Significant senior financial management experience, preferably in an Indigenous or other government setting.
  • Familiarity with the financial reporting requirements of Indigenous Services Canada, Yukon Government, and other funding agencies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of long-term financial strategies in alignment with KFN’s strategic plans and priorities.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual budgets,
  • Ensure the Nation maintains strong financial controls, risk management processes, and prudent fiscal practices, ensuring accountability and transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial legislation, funding agreements, and reporting requirements, including Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), Yukon Government, and other funders.
  • Proficiency in accounting software ( such as Xyntax Accounting Software ) and MS Office 365.
  • Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority-setting skills.
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete tasks requiring a high level of concentration despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and communicate justification in a calm and respectful manner.
  • Well organized, concise, detailed and accurate.
  • Ability to negotiate terms of a contract.
  • Ability to deal with criticism at the community level.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to represent KFN on an official level.
  • Full-time, based in Burwash Landing.
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license (with a clean driver’s abstract).
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Willingness to travel to Whitehorse and other communities, as required.
  • Flexibility to adjust regular working hours and provide after-hours support for staff, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Understanding of and respect for Kluane First Nation culture, values, and Self-Government or willingness to learn and participate.
